Ever thought about the word ‘love'? |
|
These days it seems that its unfathomable depth and beauty has been broken into a bunch of poorly reflected,
imperfect, incomplete pieces.
The theme of cheesy pop lyrics or Hollywood feel-good flicks, it's been stripped of meaning;
milked of significance; supplanted with vacuous, bombastic impostors. It's branded wars, broken laws, built up walls, divided
all.
‘God is love' says the Church, but what does love really mean?
2000 years ago, Jesus' friends faced
the same question. They went to great lengths to find a word for God's love that set it apart from soppy love, puppy love,
lust, adoration or infatuation and staked a claim to the word ‘agape'.
Today, The Salvation Army is making up
its own word ALOVE. ALOVE is agape in English.
ALOVE is a Godly, gritty, unconditional, sacrificial and vibrant love.
